I do agree that having a bunch of fake world titles helped it gain popularity in certain parts of the world but all it did was create tons of confusion and discredit the titles, and I also believe they have better matchmaking in Europe than they do the US
They weren't fake world titles, some of those champions were either comparable or better than WBC or WBA champions. Titles have always, and I mean always, had value insofar as fans care about the guy with the title. The fighter gives the title value in the eyes of the public. Sanctioning bodies have hindered the sport in numerous ways, from their corruption, from mandating terrible challengers, and by effectively hindering the best fights from happening far too often but I think that has been more than counter-balanced by effectively allowing more tv channels to put on championship fights and allowing champions to reign in other parts of the world.

The UFC is not bigger than boxing, WWE is not even a sport. NASCAR (or better yet Formula One), golf and tennis do have the permanency of annual prestigious events to give the sport stability.

About time. The belts don't mean an awful lot nowadays but Peterson certainly shouldn't have had one after testing positive post Khan fight and then getting flattened 1 pound above light-welterweight.

Can't see him beating Garcia, but have been wrong many times before....

I kinda hope Lamont loses so we can see Yang vs. Cuenca for the belt. We need some new guys in the mix. Both of them are anomalies: Cuenca is an undefeated Argentine with the lowest KO% I've ever seen, and Yang could become the 2nd world champion from China (first for the IBF). The match-up is pretty noteworthy.

maybe to us they mean ****, but to the actual figthers they do why the hell do you think they hold them hosgate every chance they get when they get one lol.

This is long over due, This gives a new boxer a chance to rank in some more money and defend the title against other more worthy oppenents.
