  • Well, this thread was rezzed cuz of last night's lol's.

But if they are real and released, they're nothing more than nice participation trophies to have as a memento

    • Boxing has too much tradition to make new belts. The WBC especially has a lot of History and Tradition so I don't think they will make Belts they will likely just continue to have their fighters fight for the WBC, WBA and IBF

Having 1 Belt in every Division would make the best fight the best like the UFC but Unifying Titles is also a Boxing Tradition as well

The top guys, all fight each other in their divisions.
For sure my whole argument isn't top fights weren't getting made before. I got too many arguments & am open to change my opinions when new info comes forward to ever be stuck with one argument.

That said for all the fights you can say are being made there are fights that were never made or at very least got pushed back til they made less sense than they could have made. Gotta "marinate" doe. And the top lil guys virtually never fight or unify titles.

GGG vs Canelo, GGG vs Cotto & GGG vs Martinez never happening (at least thus far) would be my simplest example to bring up. GGG got f#cked over twice for sure & maybe will one more time. You can bring up money or politricks or promoter issues or whatever but the reality is a TON of fights don't get made & you know this cuz I'm sure I could find some fight you were bellyaching about not happening at some point like we all bellyache about some fight not happening at some point. Quit bsing me maaaaaaaaan.

the problem with Haymon, he hasn't put together such fights, apart from possibly DeGale v Dirrell and Jack v Groves. The issue is, they featured brits who weren't exclusive to haymon (things may be different with Chunky now).
The problem most people ultimately have with Haymon if you cut thru the bs of the things they say is he's still in the middle of creating something (that granted may or may not succeed) & people got the patience of a 7 year old ******ed boy when you take away his Lego's & throw some carrots in his face.

Nothing Haymon is doing right now was gonna get done overnight & immediately be a game charger for boxing. HBO was showing 3 or 5 shows a year for a decade or some such **** when they started in the game & were showing Larry Alexander fights & bs like that (among other more legit fights obviously). Now look where they are at. If you & this forum were around back than I have zero doubt you'd not have the ability to see the potential or have the patience to understand sometimes things take time when you are trying to do big things. And the door was open wayyyy wider for entry into boxing back then & with HBO's bankroll so of course there is gonna need to be a more indepth, longer strategy at work for some new entity to make a HBO-like mark on the sport.

WIth PBCs exclusivity, there is noway that Kovalev v Adonis will happen and if it does, it will happen without the organisational straps, or Fury/Wilder or a top welter versus DG for example. So all we have, at the very least, is the PBC strap getting added to the more respected WBA/WBO/IBF/WBC. At worse, anyone holding the PBC strap just gets laughed out of the sport.
Most the cats holding belts can be laughed at today cuz only 1 out of 4 or 5 of them per division is or should be the real champion.

Is unifying titles a boxing tradition?

I think if you look at boxing history its not. Sure since the 80's & beyond which began the era of multiple alphabet groups & powerful promoters taking advantage of multiple champions its been the reality, but from the end of the bare knuckle days up til the 80's there is almost exclusively one champion with some major or minor disputable episodes thrown in various divisions at various points that are anomalies more than the status quo.

Well maybe I'm just thinking about the few unification bouts like Leonard vs Hearns 1 and a few others. But yeah it is only more recently that you have any and everybody walking around with Belts and it is ridiculous. Maybe I should've posted Being UNDISPUTED is Tradition in boxing instead of taking your 1 Title and staying away from the rest of the Champions like these fighters are doing now.

top fights don't get made now.

This is why other promoters and bodies need to work with Haymon, not against him. There should only be one belt and true champion per division, and the best matchups should be made, and not marinated. That's how you jump start this sport again and make it truly appealing to casuals.

I know many casuals who like the violence but find the politics confusing.
