Comments Thread For: Roach: Cotto Gave Advice on Mayweather, Picks Manny

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is gathering as much information as possible on his upcoming assignment, as he continues to train WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao for his mega-fight unification with WBC/WBA champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2nd from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Besides Pacquiao, Roach is also the head trainer of WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, who traded punches in the ring with Mayweather in 2012. That match, which took place before Roach was hired, was a junior middleweight contest where Cotto lost a twelve round decision - but not before giving Mayweather one of his tougher fights in the last few years.

Cotto may have given Roach and Pacquiao SOME information about Mayweather, but I bet that Alex Ariza gave Mayweather MUCH MORE information about Pacquiao!

In a big fight both opposing camps make issues to sell the fight. Some of those issues becomes personal and create tensions between the fighters. Between two gentlemen after the fight those issue are forgotten and let bygone be bygone. I don't know about the Mayweathers...they make too many excuses and alibis and they change their stories all the time.

Freddy is the biggest egomaniac in all of boxing. Give his best game plan to a ****ball fighter and see what happens.

So there should be no tension between two men who were not friends and still not friends when one beat the hell out of the other and played hardball with the catchweight.

Tell me how many of yall have been in a fight with a stranger (win, lose or draw) saw that person again with both recognizing who the other is and can honestly say it didn't feel a little awkward.
