  • Comments Thread For: Joshua Ready To Start Pushing For British, Euro Belts

Anthony Joshua continued his remarkable start to his professional career by knocking out Jason Gavern inside three rounds at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle.

The London 2012 super-heavyweight gold medallist knocked down his game, but overmatched, opponent four times en route to his 11th straight win in the paid ranks, none of which have gone beyond three rounds.

Gavern showed plenty of heart in getting up three times but never looked like causing what would have been a huge shock against Joshua, who next faces former world title challenger Kevin Johnson next month at London's O2 Arena.

Good, that's the next phase of his career..

Joshua already passed phase 1 - beating limited fighters, staying active, building name

Now that he is established he needs to fight the next step up in competition, and then 2016-17 starting heading towards the top guys...

Not much left for him at British level. Chisora would be a good scalp to claim, even though he's shot to bits now. A bit lower down, there's Sexton and fat fuck McDermott. Sauerland will never let Price anywhere near him, and who knows what's going on with Helenius.

At European/world-ish level there's guys like Meehan, hopeless trucker Leapai, and Boytsov. He'd do well against them. Is Dimitrenko available for a beatdown? For a real acid test, maybe within 2 years, throw him in there with Thompson, Pulev, or Chambers if he does well against Johnson.

The next fight after Johnson he should have is against Dillian Whyte for the British Title.

I feel as though we will get two or maybe even three more of these types of level fights for him, which is cool with me, but any more than three is kind of overstating the point a little when there are guys/names out there that are a clear step up but still within his capabilities of beating.

I'm all for him being built up and taking time coz I understand that, and it's not like he has 20+ fights vs the guys from down the street, there is no need to expect a world title this year or anything, I just hope that before too long we get to see a little more of what he is about.

Yes, someone with Olympic gold doesn't need to start their pro careers as slow as a mere mortal would, as Josh already has pedigree and at a certain level. Plus he is supposedly the no2 brit already.

So he needs to fight guys Chisora or Price would be prepared to fight at least. Hes had his confidence booster fights, but not sure he is learning with knocking them out so fast. But Wilder had 30 fights doing that as well so not saying you cant do that.

He did not impress me against Gavern - who is a good level journeyman but someone Josh needs to take out in quick and devastating fashion. Even though he had a long layoff.

However, he's fighting Kingpin next month and might get out once more before that which I feel would do him good.

Talks about Fury is totally ridiculous. He should fight Dillian Whyte for the British title soon.

Also. Hughie Fury fought Rudenko 25-1 just last time out and still is ranked lower than Joshua. Doesn't make any sense to me at all, other than Joshua is getting ranked because he has hype.
