Pepsi Coliseum, Quebec City, Canada - Montreal-based Russian Artur Beterbiev crushed former title-challenger Gabriel Campillo, knocking out the Spaniard at 2:22 of the fourth round with a massive right-left combination in a light heavyweight bout.

Campillo was hurt very early in the contest and went down in the first round. He was then hurt a few more times in the second and badly in the third, before getting crushed by a knockout combination in the fourth.

It was the eighth knockout in as many pro bouts for Beterbiev, who enjoyed a standout amateur career. Campillo fell to 25-7-1, with 12 knockouts, dominated the whole way by Beterbiev who proclaimed himself ready for a professional world title shot.

Campillo said afterwards that he never recovered from the first big shot in round one.

Beterbiev could have finished Campillo in the 2nd round but not to cast light on what a grotesque mismatch, against a shot dude this really was he carried him a few more rounds, just the kind of non competitive boxing im looking for on a saturday afternoon, Pbc and Al Haymon everybody!

Dont want to sound like an al haymon nuthugger, but

      1. That was Beterbievs 8th fight, who is he supposed to fight? With the exception of Rigondeaux and Lomachenko most prospects beat far weaker opposition at that point

      2. Campillo, while past his prime, was a former champion, objectively won against cloud, drew with murat, beat a promising prospect in thomas williams jr. and was on a 3 fight winning streak.
Sure he wasnt going to win and was stylistically not a threat to beterbiev, but campillo is still at a decent gatekeeper level and that is what you are supposed to fight in your 8th fight.

      3. Beterbiev is an explosive and exciting puncher, he is made for network tv and is going to excite casual viewers far better than no risk no fun defensive minded boxer. (not that there is something wrong with that)

Campillo is a slow starter but I think after getting rocked that early he was too tentative to open up, unlike his fight with Cloud. If he wasn't shot before this fight, he probably is now.

It sucks for him though, he got robbed three times and should have gotten the chance to fight Hopkins. The three opponents he was robbed against got to fight Hopkins and I don't like it.

Anyway, while its too early to put him in with Kovalev, Beterbiev is on the right track.
