Comments Thread For: Jonathan Taconing Stops Ramon Garcia Hirales in Ten

WBC No. 3 ranked Jonathan “Lightning” Taconing has scored an impressive 10th round TKO victory over former WBO light flyweight champion Ramon Garcia Hirales in Mexico in a ten round bout in which he risked a mandated title eliminator for the crown held by Mexico’s Pedro Guevara.

Guevara is set to defend his title against WBC Asian Boxing Council light flyweight champion Richard Claveras in Sinaloa, Mexico on April 11 despite the fact that the Filipino is ranked only No. 26 by the WBC.

It was the 28 year old Taconing’s eighth straight win which improved his record to 21-2-1 with 18 knockouts. He was coming off a win over Indonesia’s Oscar Raknafa who retired in the 4th round of a scheduled ten round bout last December 21, 2014.

Liza Elorde, wife of Taconing’s manager Johnny Elorde informed the New Standard/boxingmirror.com “it was stopped in the 10th round because Garcia Hirales was about to fall. Great fight.”

Out of curiosity seeing Taconing's record of 18 KOs in 21 wins I Youtubed the Porpramook - Taconing fight.

This is a shameful fight. Do these people think we still live in the stone age era where they can rob blindly someone in a Championship fight? The Korean referre is a disgrace and should be suspended for life. Porpramook should be ashamed to be called a World Champion for quitting with a small nick. He would have been stopped by Taconing in a fair fight if the fight was not abruptly halted ( and this is the case where a corrupt referee decided the outcome of the fight along with the Thai's corners). Taconing would have been a World Champion in 14 fights.

Now Taconing will have to work his way up and his progress was delayed by 3-4 years.

I hope he gets his shot at Estrada or Gonzales but I doubt he will unseat them. Not with another Thai again in Thailand.

And Ronnie the fight was not a draw. The Thai retained the title on a majority decision with one judge ( again a corrupt one) scoring it a shutout.
