Comments Thread For: Campillo: I Never Recovered From First Beterbiev Shot

Pepsi Coliseum, Quebec City, Canada - Montreal-based Russian Artur Beterbiev crushed former title-challenger Gabriel Campillo, knocking out the Spaniard at 2:22 of the fourth round with a massive right-left combination in a light heavyweight bout.

Campillo was hurt very early in the contest and went down in the first round. He was then hurt a few more times in the second and badly in the third, before getting crushed by a knockout combination in the fourth.

It was the eighth knockout in as many pro bouts for Beterbiev, who enjoyed a standout amateur career. Campillo fell to 25-7-1, with 12 knockouts, dominated the whole way by Beterbiev who proclaimed himself ready for a professional world title shot.

I hope this is the last I see of this guy they should change his nickname to Gabriel "the paycheck" Campillo, because you, me, him, his trainer, everybody in the building knows hes just punching a clock, did he even land a shot on Beterbiev?

He's had a tough career... got screwed several times badly by the judges, in title fights he won clearly, againt Shumenov, Cloud, etc when he was doing good in his prime... and then he got KO'd brutally by Kovalev and now again.

In a fight where you are outgunned. You need to to come out with that jab from the gate and shove it all in that opponents face. Early and often. I did not see that from you. He should have been eating jabs from the first bell.

campillo should consider retiring. he hasn't been the same since kovalev beat him up. i fear he might suffer more devastating losses if he continues fighting.
