Mauricio Sulaiman, World Boxing Council President, confirms that Miguel Cotto must face Gennady Golovkin in an obligatory defence.

Kazakh “GGG” defeated Britain's Martin Murray, last weekend, successfully defending his WBC interim middleweight championship. Cotto is the absolute Champion of the division, while Genaddy is the official challenger.

However, the Champion has a voluntary defence. If he wins he must fight Golovkin.

“ Miguel Cotto will have a voluntary defense. He will choose his rival. But the winner will have to face Golovkin” Mauricio stressed.

Possible opponents for Cotto are Timothy Bradley and Erislandy Lara. The fight Is scheduled for June at a venue to be determined.

But, as I figured, you are.

That's a wbc mandate. Cotto is not contractually bound to fight ggg or anyone else for that matter, except geale . Cotto can easily vacate or fight some else (Canelo) and the wbc won't do a thing except take their hefty sanctioning fee.

I'll be waiting for the link or copy of contract for the cotto v ggg fight. Syke. I doesnt exist yet.
