  • Styles make fights. Khan always dominates back-footed technical boxers, yet always has problems with forward-footed pressure fighters. He was expecting Algieri to do his usual back-footed technical style, which Khan would have dominated 120-108, but Algieri surprised everyone with his forward-footed pressure style, so Khan struggled for the first half before making the necessary adjustments for the second half.

It shouldn't be too surprising that Khan had problems against a forward-footed pressure fighter, especially from someone with taller height and longer reach than him, and when he wasn't expecting it. Algieri surprised everyone with his versatility, being able to switch it up like that to a completely different style.

    • Said it once and I will say it again Khan overtrained for the fight, it was so obvious, he looked awful and dead tired after 7-8 rounds, he was there to be knocked out. I am surprised more 'hardcore' boxing fans haven't picked up on this, maybe the fact that Khan is universally hated means most don't want to know. Chris Algieri also fought a great fight and looked better than ever, I am sure that contributed. Khan should forget Mayweather and do the Algieri rematch in the UK, try to beat him more clearly, and build up the Brook fight for next summer.

      • About round one, I'm still having a hard time seeing how anyone claimed Khan won it, it's the story of the fight. Khan was flurrying ineffectively and the only 2 punches that mattered that entire 3 minutes were 2 punches that Chris landed that won an otherwise uneventful round.
