Long amateur careers can put fighters on the fast track. It's a matter of is it better to stay in the ams longer and get put on the fast track or turn pro earlier and get moved slowly like a Russell Jr. Everybody is different.

If what you say is the case, then why would Kovalev specifically state that the Russian boxing team members would verify what he said? Obviously this could (and eventually will) be followed up, and if what Kovalev stated isn't the case, he'll lose face far beyond acknowledging that Beterbiev won two legit decisions against him as an amateur. By the way, Ismayl Sillah also fought Beterbiev as an amateur and both won and lost against him. So what? Amateur boxing decisions used by a professional to boast his prowess as a professional is absurd (unless of course they are drop dead knockouts - which wasn't the case with Beterbiev/Kovalev), and Beterbiev ought to be ashamed that he believes his professional record is insufficient to speak for itself and needs a boost from his amateur career. What's next? My dad beat your dad?
