Comments Thread For: Beterbiev Wants To Put Kovalev 'Back In His Place'

Adonis Stevenson isn’t the only hard-hitting, Quebec-based light heavyweight who’s been answering a lot of questions lately about Sergey Kovalev.

Fellow Russian Artur Beterbiev also has been asked often about boxing Kovalev, the IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion. Kovalev wants nothing more than a unification fight against Stevenson, but Beterbiev beat Kovalev twice when they were amateurs.

Beterbiev (7-0, 7 KOs) acknowledged on a recent conference call to discuss his fight Saturday against Gabriel Campillo that he is intrigued by a potential third fight against Kovalev (27-0-1, 24 KOs). The emerging prospect also seemed annoyed because Kovalev has downplayed the significance of Beterbiev’s victories over him before they turned pro.

Looks like Kovakev is stepping up competition. Could he be the King of Montreal? He just beat Pascal, He should fight Stevenson next which will be in Montreal i am sure and then Could he fight Beterbiev there also. Light heavyweight division is coming up! Maybe after those tow he would fight winner of Ward and Froch if they ever decide to fight. Plus he could fight Chavez, Golovkin maybe? Alot of big fights.

7 and 0 should get you no shot. I don't care what happened in the amateurs. Kovalev is on the verge of stardom who the hell cares what this other scrub is doing at the moment.

Will Artur also demand the shady judges that gifted him the decisions in the amateur ranks? Kovalev specifically stated that any Russian team member will back him on this matter. So, Artur, we all await the day you fight Sergey as a pro, but as for now get more fights under your belt to become a valuable challenger for Sergey's title, and yes, that includes Stevenson, the pimp. Until then it sounds as if you are just talking and nothing more.

He's already beaten Cloud and will be fighting Campillo next. That's quite impressive for a guy with so few fights. He seems to be moving at a fast past.

Don't know much about Campillo but Cloud is a nice win. Isn't this fight this weekend? I'll have a chance then to judge his abilities. However I find it funny that a 7 and 0 fighter can talk down on a multi belt holder and top 2 in his division.

Yep. He's already fighting ranked guys.

If some of these fighters want to skip AAA and go right to the big leagues, that's their choice.

Kovalev-Beterbiev could be one of the best fights in the sport in the near future.

Rigo was 12-0 when he beat Donaire and won a title at 6 or 7. Loma is 3-1 and is the 2nd ranked fighter in his division.

Long amateur careers can put fighters on the fast track. It's a matter of is it better to stay in the ams longer and get put on the fast track or turn pro earlier and get moved slowly like a Russell Jr. Everybody is different.

Campillo boxed Cloud's **** off and got robbed of a decision in America a few years ago.
