Assuming all goes well in their upcoming bouts, Hekkie Budler and Katsunari Takayama appear on course for a strawweight unification bout later this year.
Outspoken promoter Rodney Berman—who guides Budler’s career—has set aside a November 6 date in Monte Carlo for such an event, although several factors remain in play in order for the fight to happen.
First up is a June 6 optional defense for Budler (28-1, 9KOs), who is coming off of a hard-fought 12-round decision over former titlist Jesus Silvestre in February. The latest win took place in Monte Carlo, which has hosted Budler’s last three starts.
