Comments Thread For: Nonito Donaire Cutting Weight Much Easier Now

Five division world champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire who was initially struggling to reduce weight says his body is “now adapting after doing it for quite a while and the weight is coming off easily.”

Donaire who is returning to the super bantamweight division where he was named “Fighter of the Year” after four rousing victories over some of the best champions in the 122 pound division told BoxingScene.com/New Standard/Viva Sports that “in the beginning weight was a little bit difficult to shed because I’ve never gone down below 130 pounds a month before a fight as my body was reacting differently.”

I think he could fight at 126 and be competitive with most featherweights... He just ran into a guy that was much bigger than him. Donaire even hurt him, if it was was earlier in the round,...you never know what might've happened.

If a fighter struggles that much to make that weight, then he probably needs to go to the next weight class.

But yea, Donaire got KO'd badly so he's second guessing himself at 126.

This seems like a terrible idea. He's not the first guy to do it, but given his recent form he's not a likely candidate to do it successfully.

I'd like to see him with Frampton. That's a great fight, and a good launch pad for Frampton if he wants to fight in the US.
