Comments Thread For: Nicholas Walters Ring Return Eyed For June Date?

WBA featherweight titlist, Nicholas Walters, burst onto the scene back in October by stopping Nonito Donaire in six rounds at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, in what was his HBO debut. He was scheduled to return on March 21st before being knocked out with the flu bug.

Sources have told Boxingscene.com that 'the Axe Man' from Jamaica will be making his return to the ring in June. Top Rank - which promotes Walters - has two HBO dates that month. One is on the 13th( at the Theater of Madison Square Garden, where Felix Verdejo could be facing Ivan Najera) and a card that might land on the 27th that will feature Tim Bradley's. It's being reported that Bradley will face IBF 154-belt-holder Cornelius Bundrage and Mexico City of all places, is being discussed as it's destination.

As for who Walters might face, he was slated to face Gamalier Rodriguez back in March, but the Puerto Rican is now scheduled to face Vasyl Lomachenko on May 2nd on the Pacquiao-Mayweather undercard. [Click Here To Read More]

I hate that Top Rank is letting Walters Lomachenko marinate. It's not like this is going to be some huge money fight if they wait a year or 9 months.

Loma/walters would be a bigger fight if they let it marinate, especially if they headline 3 or 4 good HBO fights apiece. Its not like they are household names

Besides, bob arum already let Walters take down one of their star fighters donaire, and also recently let Brandon Rios finish mike alvarados career. Why would he make loma/walters when they are barely becoming popular and also the featherweight and super bantamweight divisions are stacked right now. That fight could be a paper view fight not too far from mow.if they both continue to dominate

They'll wait till one of them takes a brutal loss just like they did waiting on Gamboa-Lopez.

Waiting so damn long to get that fight going that finally one of them had to get wiped out and unfortunately it was Lopez first to get blasted.

Why would a loss harm either guy? Loma lost and fought for a title in his next fight.

Unify with Gradovich. The style clash will make for a great fight.

Not just a decision lost, but a blasting out loss will really make the fight lose luster.

We've seen it countless times before even including Pac-Jr. Crap, I think EVERYBODY saw this fight waaaaaay in the rear view mirror after Pac was KO'd by Marquez. Nobody on earth probably thought the fight would materialize at that point, nor have the same quality due to Pac just being blasted. Sure you can dig yourself out of a hole such as Pac, but he's already established so people would follow him even at his darkest moments.

Loma and Walters have nothing really thus far besides hardcore fan followers. If either is dusted, forget it.

Why isn't Rigo the Flyweight killer calling out Walters? Oh, that's because he only "challenges" himself vs guys(like Donaire) who are 2-3 divisions smaller but won't move up 1 division to fight Walters. LMAO!

Reminds me of how he let Gamboa vs Lopez marinate.
