Comments Thread For: Jhonny Gonzalez Dedicates Fight To Perro Aguayo Jr.

WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez has dedicated his upcoming fight to Mexican wrestling superstar Perro Aguayo Jr. (El Hijo del Perro). Over the weekend, 35-year-old Aguayo died after a tragic accident during a wrestling match in Tijuana with former WWE superstar Rey Mysterio Jr. Aguayo was knocked out during the match, he was unresponsive and pronounced dead upon his arrival to a local hospital.

The match featured Aguayo teaming with TNA star Manik against the duo of Mysterio and Xtreme Tiger. When Aguayo leaned against the ring ropes as Mysterio set up the 619 -- a move he regularly performed in both WCW and WWE -- the wrestler suddenly appeared unconscious. There is video of the match, but be warned that it is disturbing to watch.

Once they realized something was wrong, the other three men in the match continued the bout while a person checked on Aguayo ringside. When the bout ended, medical personnel transferred Aguayo to the hospital, where local media reports he was pronounced dead at 1:00 a.m. PT.

It's not yet clear what the cause of Aguayo's death was. AAA released a statement on Twitter which roughly translates to, "The grief overwhelms our hearts. Rest in peace, Hijo del Perro Aguayo." Manik also spoke out, writing, "Godspeed Perro ... Life goes so fast man. I can't believe some of us pack our bags and don't make it home."

Unfortunate but what happened was the Mex flinched when Rey was doing a spinning leg kick and was kicked in the trachea. There was video of it on a Mex site..
