  • Comments Thread For: Lucas Browne Seeks Hometown Edge For Chagaev Clash

As the clock winds down on the negotiation period for his heavyweight showdown with Ruslan Chagaev, unbeaten contender Lucas Browne is hopeful that both camps can come to an agreement before the matter goes to purse bid this week.

Browne's camp also hopes to rewrite history with the forthcoming opportunity. It's been more than 100 years since Australia has played host to a heavyweight title fight (Chagaev holds a secondary title) and has never claimed a champion of its own in the most storied weight class in boxing history.

Wherever the fight takes place. Browne will embrace the opportunity with open arms. That doesn't mean he can't wish to bring the fight to his hometown.

"It's a really exciting stage of my career. I'm ready to become Australia's first ever heavyweight champion," Browne (22-0, 19KOs) said. "Even though there's no date set, I've begun training already and I'm really going the extra mile to make sure the WBA belt is mine.

"I'm happy to fight Chagaev anywhere but if it's in Australia I know it'll be huge. The public would love to see me knock him out to win the belt and I plan on doing exactly that." [Click Here To Read More]

I fully expect Chagaev to beat the unskilled, slow Browne.

I think Browne will stop the faded Chagaev.

Ruslan was a top heavyweight in his day, but has made little effort to stay in shape the past few years.

Motivated, in shape Chagaev wins, the fat slob version loses. Would be a good fight to bet on if I just knew which Chagaev shows up..

Chagaev was in awful shape against Oquendo, I doubt he will be in any better shape. Their doesn't seem to be any motivation there. We're fou years removed from his last truly decent showing and performance, the loss against Povetkin.

I'm not a fan of Browne but I think id rather see him win than an out of shape Chagaev who could then potentially go on and face the champ, no thanks to that please. Not that I want to see Browne versus Wlad any more so. Hopefully Ortiz fights and defeats the victor of this one.

With Glazkov coming up as a mandatory we don't need guys like Browne or Chagaev contesting world championships too.

Chagaev reminds me of Odlanier Solis-- so much wasted potential lost mainly due to lack of discipline. He will be KOd by Browne if he doesn't bring back his game.
