Promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions is not overly confident of Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) actually stepping in the ring with Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29KOs) in the near future.

Cotto is the WBC's middleweight champion and is scheduled to make the first defense of that title in June against an opponent to be determined. Golovkin, who is the WBC's interim-champion and holds the WBA/IBO world titles, is going to fight on May 16th against Willie Monroe. The World Boxing Council has ordered that Cotto must face the winner of Golovkin-Monroe next.

It's not happening boss, GGG needs to move in a different direction. His big fight with Canelo is still about 3 fights away as well. Meaning he ain't getting a big fight for at least a year. A year and a half. By then he will be 33-34? He needs to make a move.... Stop worrying about Cotto and his meaningless belt. Chase bigger fish and $$.

It's simple if you think about this too: Cotto ain't fighting him. He can keep talking about it, but it ain't going to happen. He can sit and talk about it, or he can take another road. Golovkin wants to be able to claim the true championship of 160 before doing that. Cotto just needs to step aside - simple as that.
