He probably could but he'll retire before then anyway.

At one point I thought he could, but now I don't.

Today's fighters won't beat the record with 2 defenses a year.

There is only one record of Louis's safe from Wladimir.

          Number of CONSECUTIVE defences.

He's almost broke the number of TOTAL defences already so by that measure, the only one that is really important, of course he'll break it.

Streaks are pretty much a worthless statistic, especially since Wladimir in this era is forbidden to fight bums (we might CALL guys like Leapai bums but in reality they have good records), whereas included in Joe Louis's streak were proper bums and LHW's that Wladimir is not allowed to fight.

In terms of real HW (200+) Wladimir has the most title defences already by far of anybody and Joe Louis only had around 8, about 10th on the list all time.

^ That is an even MORE accurate assessment.

The only thing that Joe Louis and Wladimir Klitschko, and their respective opponents overall have in common is that at one point in history, they were both nominally CALLED HW's, but that former set were not HW's as we describe them today.

Another case in point though here...

It's obvious that one fight against a modern opponent though is worth 10 fights against ancient opponents.

It takes months to prepare for a modern opponent. Back in those days the comp was so weak, barely trained and barely even fed food. Of COURSE you could take on one after the other.

It was completely unnecessary to prepare for the fights!

If Wlad chooses to he will...and it'll be more impressive being hes actually fighting guys who have winning records and are over 230 pounds most of the time...P4P I don't even see how many fans say Louis is the better boxer either,he has limited footwork and poor defensive skills that's why he was knocked down so many times.

youre going to take some heat for this post. anyway,,,there's no way in hell wlad beats that record. hes 39 now and only has a few fights left imo. if he fights any longer than that hes going to get knocked off by someone he wouldnt have lost to in his prime. hes already shown a little decline in his reflexes over his last couple fights as he got caught with punches he wasnt getting caught with just a couple yrs ago. obviously the last thing to go is the power so he still looked great offensively but he is slowing down slowly but surely

I can't see it as by the end of the year he will still be 6 short of tying the record(assuming he doesn't lose). That means he is a good 2 or even three years away from tying the record. There aren't enough Shannon Briggs, Milk Duds of the world to pull that off.

A couple of years ago I thought he had a shot, but he doesn't fight enough, he will be old in a fight if he doesn't retire in the next 1-2 years.
He probably has 3-4 fights left at the most, unless he fights Shannon Briggs, Leapi and Kimbo Slice type of opponents, if he did that, he might.
