    Ive read that kovalev left from russian boxing because it was corrupt

    Can anyone with knowledge about this explain?

    Why would they be against him and side with other Russian boxers?

    Alot of the boxers in Russia are backed by powerful oligarchs and kovalev had no one so he wad getting robbed in big events like going to the olympics or the world championships

      He's referring to the politics in team selection and the like. With the sheer number of boxers in a country like Russia competing for a relatively small number of places that stuff is inevitable.

            Some fighters are better "connected", as a boxing fan you should already know how this works. The better connected guy tends to get the nod if it's close.

            It's a boxing issue, not strictly a Russian boxing issue.
