Late bloomer Justin Thomas looks for 2015 to be the year where he transitions from local attraction to a super middleweight prospect who commands national attention.

The unbeaten 31-year old headlines March 28 in his hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he faces Georgia native Timothy Hall. The scheduled eight-round bout marks his seventh straight appearance at The Belle of Baton Rouge, where he regularly packs the house.

“Every boxing event we’ve had at The Belle has sold out,” notes promoter Matt McGovern, also the founder of World Fighting Championships. The forthcoming event – WCF 36 – is part of a recurring series at the venue, with three more planned at The Belle in 2015.

Thomas’ last ring appearance came in January, scoring a 4th round stoppage of David Lujan atop WCF 33. His local drawing power is attributed to tragedy that brought him back home from Houston, where he lived and trained during his notable amateur career. A car accident left his mother in need of round-the-clock care, prompting Thomas to move back home in 2011, one year before turning pro.

“It’s been a slow recovery process,” said Thomas (11-0, 6KOs) of his still healing mother. “After her accident, I decided to move home and turn pro here in Baton Rouge. It’s a great feeling to fight in front of the people that saw me come up, who know what I’ve been through, and where I came from.” [Click Here To Read More]
