Comments Thread For: Mayweather-Pacquiao: Both TV Azteca, Televisa To Carry

Even rival networks in other countries are coming together for the May 2nd showdown between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. According to ESPN Deportes, a deal is nearly complete where rival networks in Mexico, Televisa and TV Azteca, will simultaneously carry the Mayweather-Pacquiao clash, which takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Azteca has carried Pacquiao's fights since 2007 and Televisa is aligned with Mayweather. In the United States, rival networks HBO (Pacquiao) and Showtime (Mayweather) are coming together to stage the pay-per-view telecast.

This might end up being the most watched live bout in boxing history.

Showtime/HBO carrying the fight stateside, Televisa/Azteca carrying the fight in Mexico, with the Canadian/UK/German/etc TV rights yet to be determined.

Glad to see the TV situation starting to fall into place.

Especially with Showtime moving their PPV telecasts up an hour, you might be right. (UK/Europe would still end up starting the PPV, live, at 1am/2am; that's about the time most folks are still partying on Saturday, so it could work, better than the early morning feel that you would get for a 3am start. Europe and Africa are kind of in that same time situation). UAE/Pakistan/Middle East end up getting stuck with the early morning start for the live broadcast, but everywhere else is either getting the in the evening (N/S America) or after morning breakfast (Russia/Asia/etc).

Beyond that, there's talk of the fight being re-aired in the UK in the evening, and I predict that to kind of be how the other European nations would approach it too.

I wonder if Manny gets to keep all the phillipines revenue. Also I really want to know if they are going to show this fight in the theatres because that's exactly where I will be may 2nd

Ratings are going to be through the roof for this one.

Chavez Jr and Canelo get 30-40 million views for their fights, and that's just with one network.

I expect at least 100 million views coming out of Mexico on Cinco de Mayo weekend.
