Are the mitts just for technique? Is he focusing on accuracy on the heavy bag because it seems like he only throws 1 or 2 hard shots then just barely touches it. Only time he really puts power behind his punches is when he hits the body protector.

Is he just saving energy or some ****?

Focus mitts, the way that Floyd does them anyway, are about establishing muscle memory (if a hook comes, you build the instincts of the different ways that you can go about nullifying the shot, block/catch-and-shoot/duck/etc, while remaining in effective position to get your own shots off).

Looking at the heavy bag work, Floyd works on placing his heavier shots, to the head/body, but it also seems like he's trying to max out the fatigue that can set in when you throw a ton of punches. why allow yourself to get arm weary on fight night?
