I think Roach is referring to Floyd's lead right hand. There's a video of Manny working on countering Floyd's lead right hand with a right hook. I think it's a good strategy because Manny is fast enough to catch Floyd with it. Floyd likes to throw the straight right hand upstairs or downstairs, then pivot to his right. Floyd is quick enough with the lead right hand and he disguises it well, but I said he can make the same tactical adjustment against, Manny that he made against, Judah's right hook counter. After Judah made him touched the canvas with the right hook; Floyd used his left hand to momentarily parried/pushed/held Judah's right hand, then threw the right hand upstairs/downstairs. Floyd can do that all night against, Manny, but he likes to lead with the right hand and will heavily rely on using it against Manny more so than he'll use his left hand to set the right hand.
He doesn't like to use his left hand much unless he's forced to do so and I hope Manny forces him to operate behind the left hand and bring the best out of Floyd. The more often Floyd uses his left hand to set the straight right hand upstairs/downstairs, the easier he'll be able to just lead with the straight right hand and further confuses his opponent. Floyd is a very stubborn/confident boxer, so I expect him to test Manny with the lead right hand from the get-go without using his left hand as a decoy to occupy Manny's right hook counter. It'll be up to Manny to see if he can catch with the right hook counter strategy that he's working on or else Floyd will snap his head back all night with it. The lead right is quick, but it's a punch that can leave you vulnerable/open for counters if you're constantly relying on it especially against a fast opponent like, Manny. The more Floyd uses his left hand to set the right hand upstairs/downstairs, the less likely he'll be open to get countered. Why leave yourself open when you don't have to?Last edited by Carpe Diem; 03-19-2015, 02:58 PM.
