Comments Thread For: Caparello Helping Beterbiev Prepare for Campillo

Montreal, Canada, is a long way from Australia. But Blake Caparello has traveled quite a distance from home to work in camp with Artur Beterbiev, the 7-0 (7 KOs) light heavyweight prospect who will be facing Gabriel Campillo on April 4.

“We’ve done a couple of sessions already. Beterbiev’s a very strong fighter,” Caparello said on March 13 while at the weigh-in for Sergey Kovalev’s fight with Jean Pascal. Kovalev stopped Caparello in two rounds last year.

If this goes the distance, no way Campillo gets the decision. Again.

36 year old Gabriel Campillo is the proverbial sacrificial lamb for Beterbiev...why does he need help preparing for this? He lost to everyone he ever fought who wasn't at the bottom of the B list.

Depends what you mean by that. He had a very good streak since his first KO loss with wins over champ Garay in his hometown, plus rightful wins undefeated Cloud, Shumenov, Murat. Not sure these guys are worse than Fonfara who he was also schooling before gassing. He's kinda washed up now but nice win over favored prospect Williams.

You figured out what I mean right there...he is going to be a sacrificial lamb. BTW...Cloud, Shumenov, Murat were losses and who did
            Hugo Garay ever beat?

Yeah just saying, he was a top 5 LHW and should a been unified champ. He's got no chance here, probably loses at his best due to so so chin.

garay beat the guy who's ranked #4 at light heavy right now. did you even see the campillo fights? the cloud and shumenov fights are considered 2 of the worst robberies of this century. the murat fight was closer but still a clear win for campillo. campillo was one of the best light heavies in the world when kovalev smashed him. he was like the mauricio herrera of light heavies. he's still a solid fighter right now but yes stylistically beterbiev should smash him. doens't mean campillo sucks maybe beterbiev is just really good. this is how we find out.

The division as a whole is really unimpressive these days with the exception of Sergey Kovalev. With all due respect to my idol Bernard Hopkins...he's rated as no 2 at 50 years of age. Artur Beterbiev with only 7 pro fights is already rated at 10...and maybe he is worthy of it and will become the next no 1 ranked but that's to a degree due to the lack of talent at this time in the division...not to take anything away from him. This is why IMO that guys like Stevenson and Pascal are rated as they are. Look at the list. Sorry...I'm just really not that impressed with Campillo.

                    (I tried to link this but couldn't so I did a C & P....sorry)
