Comments Thread For: HBO's Nelson Thrilled To Have Gonzalez on GGG Card

At the Wednesday afternoon press conference at the Forum in Inglewood, California, it was announced that a bout between WBC flyweight titlist Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez and Edgar Sosa would be the opening bout on HBO on May 16th before the night's main event featuring WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin defending his belts against Willie Monroe Jr.

So is HBO, which traditionally doesn't showcase fighters below the bantamweight level, in the Gonzalez business or is this more of a one-off?

Why would HBO want to feature this epic mismatch?

People will literally cry about anything. This is good for the lower weights and sets up a future fight for Gonzalez vs. Estrada.

Credit to Tom Loeffler and K2 for being willing to showcase a fighter from a different promoter on GGG's undercard.

This would never happen on one of Bob Arum's HBO dates.
