Comments Thread For: Jose Ramirez Will Fight Robert Frankel on May 9 Bill

Unbeaten welterweight Jose Ramirez will fight Robert Frankel on May 9, Top Rank matchmaker Brad Goodman told BoxingScene.com on Saturday night.

The eight round bout will headline a ‘Solo Boxeo’ card that will take place at the Selland Arena in Fresno, California. UniMas will broadcast the fight.

In his last bout on December 13, Ramirez (13-0, 10 KOs), who resides in the nearby town of Avenal, stopped Antonio Arellano in the sixth and final round.

The 2012 United States Olympian is trained by Freddie Roach and works out of the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California.

Great, a loser of 4 of his last 7 fights. No thanks. Ramirez should be facing fellow unbeatens Jose Zepeda or Anton Novikov instead of a worn out mediocre Frankel.

Just a simple mistake but Ramirez has never fought at welter and won the vacant NABF Junior welterweight title by beating David Rodela on 10-25-14. Furthermore, the fight on May 9th will be a defense of that 140 lb title.

Kinda interesting isn't it that the 3 best Mexican prospects at 140, if not all divisions, are all named Jose? Jose Zepeda, Jose Ramirez and Jose Benavidez. They can have a "Jose round Robin" to determine the best Jose! LOL!

He's still very young. This is way better competition than anything Gary Russell fought at this point in his career. Hopefully it doesn't take him that long to challenge for a world title. Probably not since he's already fighting for a regional belt.
