Comments Thread For: Roy Jones: Pascal Was Composed, End Came Too Soon

This was the third fight for Roy Jones as one of the trainers to Jean Pascal, and he was both proud of what Pascal did in his eighth-round technical knockout defeat against Sergey Kovalev on Saturday, and disappointed in how that conclusion came about.

“For me, it really showed the skills, the heart of a champion. Call him Little Holyfield because he has so much heart,” Jones said at the post-fight press conference, bestowing that compliment following a fight in which Pascal was hurt in the third round and battled back to give Kovalev trouble.

I understand what Jean and Roy wanted to have happen, but the reality was that Jean was wandering as if in a daze before the round resumed, and then Jean took two more powerful shots to the head and failed to react as he needed to in order to show that he was capable of defending himself (let alone to be able to strike back effectively at Sergey). Jean Pascal will fight again in part because he wasn't clubbed again and again once the ref, Luis Pabon, determined that Jean was no longer capable of fighting effectively.

He was far from composed but I would have liked to have seen him given more of a chance to survive.

Pascal's left leg was going to the shops and at the same time his right was coming back with the change.

About as far from Composed as you can get.

Face it Roy your boy was getting his zza whooped the same way you would if you keep going out there thinking you are the Roy Jones of old. Guys like Roy are going to get fighters killed by trying to go off what they did years ago. Roy my brother, you aren't a good guy to be in anyone's corner because unlike the former fighters of yesteryear who became trainer's that understand that some fighters need to hang them up you felt your guy had a chance on heart alone. Roy, listen man, to start you need to stop fooling yourself by fighting bums and winning here and there. Then you need to be truthful as a so called trainer that you are out of your own element. You have very little knowledge to pass on when you yourself won't hang'um up and keep taking a beating to pay rent. In all honesty time for you to talk about the fight as a commentator which you are much better at than believe it or not Jim Lampley, Larry Merchant and that spoil zza kid Max Kellerman. Brother ifyou go tthat route all those around you could benefit. ...

Roy, my brother I got to ask you one thing.... Did you hear the way Thomas Hearns sound when he was talking on national television. I told my wife the guy sound like he was to shots in the wind and was drunk as hell. Every word out his mouth needed to be translated by another punch drunk P4P best. Tommy Hearns was putting guys to sleep but forgot to practice what he was schooled on all because of the mighty dollar. .....

Wish they had a better angle on Pascal stumbling near the end.

I thought it was a tad early, but there was no way Pascal was gonna comeback at that point. Kovalev would of KO'd him if he didn't slip in the corner.

Didnt look to composed when he fell across the ring, and was completely unable to avoid two rights he knew were coming.
