  • Comments Thread For: Sanchez: We Can’t Kidnap Cotto, Make Him Fight Golovkin

Although people may want Miguel Cotto to legitimize his middleweight championship by defending it against Gennady Golovkin, Golovkin’s trainer doesn’t expect that to happen.

“I think that Miguel’s got other plans,” Sanchez said. “I think that Miguel realizes that Golovkin is just too much for him and is going in a different direction, which is fine for us. We just want to fight for the middleweight title. It doesn’t matter who it’s against.”

Cotto is the lineal champion based on his big win last year over Sergio Martinez, who had outpointed Kelly Pavlik, who had knocked out Jermain Taylor, who had dethroned Bernard Hopkins. Golovkin has world titles and is seen by many as the best at 160. Still, it doesn’t frustrate Sanchez that Cotto won’t face Golovkin. Rather, it’s a situation out of their control.

      most ducked man in boxing.

Rigo at least got a shot at Donaire.

Golovkin got ducked by Martinez, Quillin, NDam, Sturm, Chavez Jr, Canelo and Cotto. even bums are thinking twice about the payday now.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear. Use the rest of this year to see how middleweight shakes out, if Golovkin has no prospects then move up. He's Cotto's mandatory, so even if Cotto doesn't want any Golovkin will get a fight for that belt.

They better hope Andy Lee wins. Because if Cotto vacates, Quillin is the #2 and since he's the star of the division, and commands a payday equal to May/Pac, he won't fight GGG. And a new lineage can't be established if Quillin holds that 2 slot.

We all know Cotto ain't fighting GGG. It's been a year you ducked GGG and Canelo. Probably going to make a mockery of the belt by defending it in June against a bum who ain't even a middleweight. Just vacate and move back down in weight. The longer he holds the belt the more he looks

Cotto is like Khan is his own mind, the greatest....Which you can say your gonna fight this guy and that guy but when it comes to actually signing at the dotted line never happens. Cotto was on the path to be a great about 8 years ago and since has done nothing but duck the best opposition in his weight class and failed to win against the big guys Pac and Mayweather when he did step up to fight them. When you think your GOD because you promote yourself you do nothing but hurt your chances of fighting a real fighter to make a name for yourself and Cotto lost his name over the past 5 years thinking he is better than he really is. I had high hopes for him as being an all time great too back in the day and that quickly became evident it was never going to happen.

His 2 options to maybe bring his following back would be Canelo and or GGG but he aint gonna fight either of them so hes just looking for the easy fights he knows he can win with the hopes it will make him a great. Greats fight the greats not pick and choose and out price themselves so its never going to happen.
