That said, GGG becomes "great" NOT by getting his hands on a shiny object, but rather by FIGHTING. So unlike some, I never get caught up in the shiny things like belts and the politics. I like to see competetive fights... I'd sooner watch GGG fight a guy ranked at #6 who is a legit threat, over a "middleweight champion," who we KNOW does not belong at middleweight.

My position is simple: GGG VS Cotto is not really a fight most true fans need to see play out. And yet, so many are acting like THIS is the fight GGG needs to make a REAL mark in his career.

The double standard: Cotto's win over Sergio is not acknowledged because Sergio was "handicapped...." and yet, GGG's win over Cotto, would be celebrated by peasants as the greatest thing ever even though, we all know Cotto is TOO SMALL for Middleweight.

    It's comedy around here doe.

No one cares about Kneeguel Clucko. Only the belt he holds. If he won't defend it, vacate it. Holding on to it and not defending it against the best makes him look like a coward. Whether he really is or not is not relevant, the fact is that it makes him look like one. Vacate the title if it means so little today. Why hold on to it?

The WBC title alone means little, but combined with the WBA, WBO and IBF it does mean something. Becoming the UNDISPUTED MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION does mean something to a fighter's legacy and it will live on in memory. How many undisputed champions are there in the sport today? Not one that I am aware of. That would be quite an achievement for any fighter in any weight class. That is why Kovalev wants to fight Stevenson.

But Cotto is standing in the way and either he gets out of the way on his own, or his title will be stripped or if he somehow grows the spine to get in the ring with GGG, it will be taken off his prone body in the ring.

Instead of people praising Al Haymon for trying to subvert the long history of the sport by creating yet another title, how about supporting fighters like GGG and Kovalev who actually try to create one champion per weight division the old fashioned way, by winning the titles in the ring!!!!

As long as cotto vacates that belt then I can't really hate on cotto avoiding a GGG fight. Cotto's not a MW, it would be a mismatch.

Agreed. Here is the sad part.

Let's say GGG fights and beats Cotto.

          What then?

          NOTHING.

GGG needs a CREDIBLE opponent asap. Right now, he is just Jeff Lacy Jr.

Abel has said this before... when he was training Yuri Boy Campas. "Oh Trinidad is ducking." Blah blah blah.

            Meanwhile....

Nothing? He becomes lineal and unified champion, stop being such a blind nuthugger.

                  Perfect insight into "peasant logic."

A peasant is reduced to cliche expressions "kneeguel," lacking zero wit and humor of their own.

A peasant, will refute Cotto's win over Sergio, yet celebrate like a ****** on a merry-go-round, should GGG beat a Jr. Middleweight named Cotto "in the ring..."

"GGG is the greatest ever...He beat a small 33 year old Jr Middle!"

In a superficial sense. You see, I prefer SUBSTANCE over ceremonies and displays of belts.

You must have grown up watching WWF. "OMG mami, Hulk Hogan just won the belt!"

I wanna see GGG fight worthy MWs or move up. YOU wanna see a picture of GGG holding a shiny object.

                    Raise your standards.

Why would I celebrate to see GGG beat Cotto? It is a total mismatch. Cotto against ANY healthy middleweight is a mismatch which is why he refuses to fight one.

I much prefer to see Cotto step up like a man and vacate the title he cannot properly defend. I have no interest at all in watching Cotto denigrate the Middleweight lineal title by defending it against JrMWs or WWs or who knows who. Be a man, admit that this is not the division for you and VACATE THE TITLE.

If he refuses, then yes, I would love to see him stripped of the title like a coward. I would love to see a notation in the record book stating he was stripped because he refused to honor his mandatory defense against Gennady Golovkin. It will be enshrined in history that Cotto was afraid of GGG.

That is actually better than seeing GGG beat him in the ring.

                      VACATE THE TITLE!!!!!
