PBC is a league, it is becoming quite apparent. I'm all for it though. Have one sanctioning body overlooking the sport.
PBC is more of an effort to create a brand, to tie the general sports fan back to boxing (the PBC events will likely have fighters not directly signed to Haymon, but signed to friendly promoters, on it; Goosen/DiBella/Warriors/Sampson/etc will all have there non-Haymon fighters on some of these bills and Matchroom Sport(UK) is definitely likely to have fighters on some of the PBC cards as well)
Haymon wants to have the general fan think 'PBC' whenever they thing 'boxing', just how the general fan thinks 'UFC' when they think 'MMA'
I'll be surprised if haymon keeps atlas... Atlas is too brutally honest when watching fighters and talking about the opposition they faced if its really bad comp.
Teddy Atlas is a 'brand name' of ESPN Boxing; brutally honest or not, there's not a single other voice that captures the type of energy that Atlas puts forward when a really good fight breaks out. Beyond that, Teddy Atlas never trashes the actual fighters; he'll rail against bad judges with everything he's got, he's not much a fan of all of the belts, and he doesn't particularly like mismatches, but he always speaks positively of the effort put forward by the fighters, win or lose.
Why try to rebuild personalities for boxing on ESPN, when you've got a crew that the general sports public already knows to work with?
When he said main events, it confused me. I thought they were talking the promotion as work with main events on ESPN cards, cause I was pretty sure htye already secured this deal. This really isnt news.
As much as I enjoy having boxing on television as much as possible, I can't stand Haymon. He and Richard Schaeffer are bad for boxing. I don't understand how you can rally behind someone who refuses to work with other promoters, even going so far as to push out the sanctioning bodies NOT as a means of having one champion (even though that will be the lie that they push on the dumb masses), but as a means of avoiding mandatories. All we have is a new "cold war," one that's even less likely to ever get sorted out. Cong****.
Hope you guys who love Haymon remember saying that whenever Santa Cruz, Quillin and Stevenson are PBC "Champs" and never have to fight outside of hand-selected opponents.

Imo, that is a nice summation of what seems to be going on right now.
Might be a good thing. I'm seeing boxing in places that I don't usually.
