Judah, De la Hoya, Mosley (to a certain degree), and Maidana (first) had their best moments by far early on in the fight.

Judah won 3 (maybe 4) of the first half of the fight and then his performance took a nosedive.

De la Hoya was winning on the judges' scorecards in the first third of the fight.

Mosley had only one moment, but that was early on where Floyd tends to be cold.

The Maidana fight isn't that far back. A lot of the rounds to give to Maidana were in the first half of the fight. You can arguably give Maidana anywhere between 3 rounds at worst (to 5) at best to Maidana in the first half of the fight. I distinctly remember thinking that I was witnessing Floyd's first loss when he was getting busted up and cut in that first half. Luckily, Maidana faded and Floyd cranked it up, easily dominating the second half of the fight with Maidana having very little success.

I'm watching both fighters' recent fights to get a better feel for what I think will happen, but at this moment I'm confident that the second half of the fight is easily in Floyd's bag. Pacquiao has to pour it on early. If Pacquiao loses the first half of the fight, I REALLY can't see him coming back...not against Floyd given his track record.
Well put. The assigned ref will be key as well.

In fairness to Thurman, he only relies on what he saw on video and hearsay.

Floyd's past opponents also relied on video and hearsay with the exception of those who actually sparred with him.

It turns out to be a different story when they finally face Floyd in a ring and attempt to decipher his game plan.

What Floyd's corner does mainly is point out weaknesses in the opponents
style and Floyd capitalizes on those at the right time, then it's game over for them.

When they start to actually feel Floyd's stinging punches in addition with having to deal with Floyd's defense, offensive, and counter offensive skills, it's Game Over.

I hear what Thurman's saying and agree with some of it but in all honesty Floyd Jr. truly has deceptive power. Those scoring blows have a sting and a pop behind them, ask Mosley specifically, a guy with a great chin.

Manny naturally has a smaller frame, less punch resistance than a bigger framed fighter who has power and can walk through "some" of those chopping, snapping blows Mayweather throws but they sting.

Because of the speed and accuracy of Mayweather's punches they can create a "Jarring" like effect, ,momentarily creating a loss of senses or equilibrium. Pacman will be experience that kind of effect if he chooses to continue to press and if he gets reckless then it could be lights out.

If you go back and watch the Mayweather-Marquez fight you will see that Mayweather COULD HAVE Ko'd Marquez if he wanted to but purposefully did not cause if he did he would be viewed even more as picking on the little fighter and received even LESS CREDIT for winning that fight imo. :ANYWORD:

Kind of the way Kovalev outworked Hopkins. Unlike Maidana, Manny will not be desperate to trap Floyd and pounce on him while he has him cornered, to the point that Floyd starts looking good with his back-against-the-ropes counters. Manny will simply unload his straight punch flurry and step back, forcing Floyd to reset, instead of staying in there for too long and get smothered or countered.

I think Manny wins this by UD -- and a lot of people will be surprised. Floyd will spend half the night posturing with his pretty boy defense, but will find the timing to counter. He has been getting used to slow punching latino fighters. The last fast guy that he fought was Mosley and that was how many years ago? And Manny presents all sorts of new problems that Mosley didn't, mainly in that his conditioning is top notch, can throw straight punches (as opposed to big looping punches), and they come from southpaw stance. His boxing IQ seems to have increased over the years, so he will hold his own when they're in the middle of the ring, and not get picked apart like some run-of-the-mill, come forward, aggressive brawler type.
I would give you credit but I supplied reading when you said Floyd wouldn't adjust to the speed! Floyd will always adjust! You think he would wait until the biggest fight of his career not to adjust? Yea right! But he will have to fight because he can get outworked!

OK I went back and read everything. I also disagree with you on the Hopkins comparison. Kovalev was just too big for Hopkins which Hopkins had never been a fast fighter as far as speed. Floyd also hasn't been the bigger fighter in years. I feel like this will play a big part in the fight. You won't be able to bully him like Maidana. I beleive this will be a great fight, but I think Floyd will be to sharp for PAC! I watched Bradley out box PAC for 4rnds! I beleive Floyd does it for 12

I think a lot of boxers go in thinking Floyd can't punch and then get surprised that he's actually got enough pop to think about, if ppl could walk through Floyd's punches trust we would be seeing this all the time, but instead wat I see is retreat once they feel his punches, other than that I think he's spot on about yo best chance being in the early rounds coz if u don't win the first 3-4 rounds he very well might shut u out
