    Thoughts on Mancini Documentary?

You guys see the Mancini documentary on his rise to fame, back story and meeting Kim's son?

    What were your thoughts?

I thought it was a real good film that was produced well.

I always wondered what Kim's wife, or baby mama rather, (they were never married) and family felt towards Mancini.

It was interesting to see how much of a normal guy Kim's son turned out to be. Not sure how old he was or what he does for a living or if he was still in college, but he look like a normal guy.

Also I guess they teach English over there in Korea, was shocked to see Kim's son speaking English on his own when he confronted Boom Boom.

One thing that bothered me was Kim's trainer seemed not that guilty for ever throwing the towel in. He never even mentioned it as an option to stop the fight. He even tells Kim something like you must fight these last two rounds for your country and baby there is no retreat or something and smiles to the camera while pointing out those were his final words he ever spoke to Kim.

I think anyone else would be extremely bothered for not stopping the fight or at least speaking about it in regret?

Also I never knew the WBA was so corrupt like that. They really blast the WBA hard in this movie.

    It was sad.
I watched that fight on that mournful day. I remember thinking how much heart this Kim guy has. At the time I didn't realize that the unthinkable could happen.

green k bro. i heard this fight turned a lot off from boxing.

mancini seems like a stand up guy whos real sincere.

i dont know how much money Boom Boom made but the documentary said he had a bunch of endorsements before the Kim fight and they all went away after. but i kinda was disappointed he never reached out to Kim's baby mama to help out with funeral costs or money for the kid.

Most of the people that it turned away I believe were fair-weather fans to start with. Tragic accidents happen in nearly all sports.

And on reaching out to help with financial support for the family, normally the promoter carries some insurance to help in case if misfortune but I bet Mancini would of if Kim's family reached out and asked for it. I didn't get a chance to watch it all the other night unfortunately so I am afraid I don't know the whole story about the family. I did hear it mention how Kim's mother was distraught about the family fighting over the insurance money.

P.S. Green k back to you

I watched this the other night and loved it. I found Mancini's relationship with his father and brother really moving, and probably more interesting than the stuff about the Duk Koo Kim fight. I loved how they went into Kim's backstory though. Only part of the movie that I didn't quite love was the meeting at the end; it felt a little forced and awkward, but this is a minor criticism. Gotta love Ray Mancini though; just seems like a great guy.

thanks for the green k bro.

yeah true. the doc also explained that year how Larry Holmes severely beaten his opponent and how AA was KO'd cold by Hawk in a very scary manner so many wrote the Kim death as their final straw since it all happened in the same year. man you must have been so lucky to grow up in an era with so many greats fighting so frequently back then bro.

Thats true about the promoters covering the insurance, but today we got the Money Mays paying for funerals and covering costs since hes so paid.

Youre right the doc explains how Kim's mom takes her own life for she is embarrassed of how her family fights over the insurance money and how her multiple divorces surface to the media. Crazy how in the USA multiple marriages are common especially among celebrities or families of wealth.

Also how the ref commits suicide too.

Again what bothered me was Kim's trainer had no remorse at all he even smiles for the cameras as he basically says my final words to my fighter were no retreat no matter what.

I actually like the Boom Boom/son meeting at the end for it provided closure to both parties. I wouldn't say it was forced but more so scripted a bit?

I mean both Kim's son and baby mama were totally civilized and calm. The mom even makes it clear that she never once blamed Mancini at all. The kid states at first he hated Ray but later realized Ray did nothing wrong and was just doing his job.

If anything it was probably most awkward for Ray's kids. The daughter looked like WTF do I have to be included for this lol.

I just hope again that Kim's son and baby mama got paid properly for being in this film.
