If the weight was irrelevant, Mayweather would have fought him without the catchweight. It's really as simple as that.

From what I saw in the first match, Canelo Alvarez would need much more than having the fight weight set at 154 pounds to have any chance of beating Floyd. If Alvarez can get Floyd to agree to enter the ring blinded by horse liniment, dehydrated while having one arm tied behind his back, having his legs hobbled together, then Alvarez may have a chance of winning the fight. Short of that Floyd still wins and wins convincingly. Yes, Canelo, the first fight was that much of a mismatch.Comment

Mayweather cultists still perpetuating the notion that Alvarez somehow pushed for a catchweight against Mayweather.
Shameless stuff.Comment

So this guy is going to start blaming the one sided schooling he recieved on the 152 lb catchweight even though he offered to fight Floyd at a catchweight in the first place? He earned his title at 150 against a welterweight (Matthew Hatton) but 152 was too much?
Face it Canelo, you just don't have the discipline to keep yourself well conditioned in between fights. You're not even making 154 right now and that is no ones fault but your own.Comment

You don't fight in your weight class now Canelo. You have to first show that you can even make 154. If you want Floyd you have to fight at the weight he suggests or you can go fight Cotto and GGG.
Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) is hoping to eventually get a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr., who holds the WBA/WBA world titles at welterweight and junior middleweight.
They fought in September of 2013, with Mayweather (47-0, 26KOs) dominating the action to win a twelve round majority decision.
Canelo says he was drained for the fight after accepting Mayweather's condition of a 152-pound catch-weight. Since that bout, Canelo has fought at 155-pounds, which is one pound above the full junior middleweight limit.
