  • Comments Thread For: Robert Helenius' Foe Announced as Alexey Mazikin

The Nordic Nightmare, Robert Helenius (19-0), returns to action, as previously reported, on March 21 in Tallinn (Estonia) and the opponent has now been announced. It will be Ukrainian veteran Alexey Mazikin (18-12-2) in the opposite corner.

Mazikin was a very good amateur and then turned pro with Spotlight Boxing in Hamburg and later joined Arena Box Promotion. But over the years Mazikin has gone downhill and what once was a possible contender is now, at best, a decent journeyman.

That's good, finally something on Helenius. Interesting to see how he looks, but the opponent is a safe pick it seems.

yeah he must have had a bad deal with sauerland, but why not run it down and renegotiate a better one? he was at fringe world title level, not the best technically a bit tall but a solid top ten guy who was in interesting fights.

now they have david price but he's not from those parts so surely theyd rather have helenius back kind of ******, to lose one of your main fighters, and be left with boring guys like hernandez.

Apparently the contract was so lopsided that he actually owes Sauerland money for his medical bills and doesn't want to pay them.

Safe return fight, but no worries, getting his feet wet again. Just great to see Helenius back in the ring again. Hopefully he can avoid further injury and challenge for a title within 2-3 years. The guy is always in an interesting fight.
