Comments Thread For: Saunders Vacates EBU Belt, Focused on World Crown

Billy Joe Saunders (21-0) has relinquished the EBU middleweight title to concentrate on a world title shot. Mandatory challenger is Michel Soro (25-1-1) from France and he will now face highest available challenger. Soro has opened 2015 with two impressive knockout wins. Saunders is the WBO's mandatory challenger and guaranteed a shot at next month's fight between champion Andy Lee and challenger Peter Quillin.

The IBF shot? Well yea, that was a guaranteed shot as well, and I called it a boneheaded move at the time, but I can see the "£" signs he and Warren are thinking about with the WBO route if Lee pulls off the miracle against Quillin/Haymon.

I was talking about the WBO because he was going to get mandated. And yea, I get that he took the money for step aside and the winner would lead to more money... but now I wouldn't be surprised if they try and side step him because he gave them a little breathing room to figure something out....
He says him being next is ironclad, and i hope so... but we'll see.

Expect Quillin to unify against Jacobs if he wins, Saunders is gonna be sat a little while longer just yet, he put money before glory here I'm afraid. Jacobs is in line to face GGG the only way he is delaying that fight when it is ordered is a unification. Haymon will be looking to fill Brooklyn and headline a card with that match up, neither Saunders nor GGG will come between that fight.

They're already talking about it, lol.

Also I doubt the WBA enforce the regular/super champion belt.

Also I see them trying to hold out for a bigger fight int he fall (GGG squad)
