Comments Thread For: Abner Mares: Jhonny Gonzalez Can't Help Reyes Win

Las Vegas, Nevada - Former three division world champion Abner Mares (28-1-1, 15KOs) is not worried about the words of advice that WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez is providing to Arturo Santos Reyes (18-4, 5KOs).

Mares is facing Santos on Saturday night as part of the NBC televised debut of 'Premier Boxing Champions.' Santos and Gonzalez are both promoted by Oswaldo Kuchle in Mexico. In a recent interview, Gonzalez revealed that he helped prepare Reyes for the fight and advised him of certain tactics to use against Mares.

I've never seen Santos Reyes fight, but from the look of his record it looks like he is a pillow puncher and everytime he has stepped it up in competition he has lost, with losses to Vetyeka, Hasegawa and Montiel. It's really disappointing to see a former mexican olympian with that many losses and for Mares to be fighting someone like this. I don't think Mares has to worry about anything.

I'm a big Mares fan but Mares needs to get it together that was not a lucky punch that landed right on his chin, that was a perfectly timed left hook. Mares plants his feet when he throws a quick combination, and Nacho and Gonzalez both knew that and timed that punch that knocked him out and has had him ducking Gonzalez ever since.
