Exactly who is it that DeGale has beaten since the Geoves fight, that tells you that he has improved?

DeGale has always been talented. He's been hampered by injury for a lot of his career.

His last two opponents were his best since Groves and they were his best performances. No coincidence.

How do you duck a guy you already beat who basically has done nothing since then?

It's another forcefed UK "superfight" that actually isn't even slightly relevant outside of 2 villages much less super.

So would you consider Periban and Gonzales World class opponents and hence a viable measuringstick of this alleged improvement?

This UK 'superfight' likely generates a much bigger revenue than Ward vs Dirrell would in a domestic yank clash.

Never said they were world class. They're on the fringes and DeGale completely outclassed them.

Before that he wasn't looking great against the likes of Dyah David and Hadillah Mohoumadi. So what does that tell you?

It's a combination of improvement and being free of a chronic groin injury that plagued him for a few years.

It doesn't have to be relevant outside London for it to generate lots of interest and revenue.

We don't care if you don't care.

Now run along and watch Wladimir Klitschko gently paw away at some fat bum in the next Euro "Super Fight" whilst 60,000 Germans sit on their hands for the whole duration.

It tells me that the jury is still out. He may or may nor have improved. Beating up clubfighters in impressive fashion only tells you so much.

Compare that to England where a horde of hooligans create outstanding drunken noise to PPV's like Haye vs Fraudley.

Domestic "silver" champions in both countries are lame.

This fight would be far more interesting if both fighters beat some top US names first and actually created some purpose for a rematch.

Right now the narrative is basically: Groves needs a UK-based opponent, and we found this guy.
