What would a close/controversial decision win do for Guerrero or Thurman?

Who will benefit more? Odds are in favor of 1 time by KO but what if that doesnt happen and its actually a tooth and nail sort of fight with one barely edging the other.

Probably Guerrero would benefit from something like that.

Thurman is built on being the next big thing, so him eeking it out against an established vet only does so much for him, because Guerrero really does not get that much respect.

Guerrero that is kind of what he does, if he out toughs and out battles Thurman he will be in line for big things in his next fight.

I agree, I think even if Thurman beats him without knocking him down he will be trashed. Thurman knowing this could come out wreckless...

Win is a win. With two top contenders like this I would think this fight will only be decided by a round or two. Maybe even a KD.

For Guerrero winning benefits him no matter what.

For Thurman, a close win would not be so impressive because he and the people around him have appointed him the next big thing. It's unfortunate because when you fight at the top level, you will have some close calls. But that's just the way boxing works.

Would better suit Guerrero since One-Time is made out to be a KO machine.

I don't think Thurman cares though, probably just concerned with the W.

I think this might go to decision now

          *edit
          Guerrero instead of Thurman

If it's entertaining then there should be a rematch!

But if it's close and neither guy looks impressive than Thurman would have looked mediocre in two fights in a row. All that hype would die.

A close win would raise up Guerrero's stock but lower Thurman's stock. Thurman is generally considered a better fighter than Guerrero. He is young and undefeated and almost always wins by KO. He is supposed to be a very important fighter for the future. Thurman is supposed to win this fight easily. It will hurt his image if he struggles with Guerrero. Guerrero is considered a solid contender but nothing really special. He has lost a few fights and he doesn't fight much. He is at the age that fighters start to go down hill. A win over an up and coming KO specialist in Thurman would improve his image a lot and put him in a good position to get the big fights.

If it's a nip/tuck fight, both guys get pushed out of the conversation for that September Mayweather fight; whomever wins likely moves onto facing the winner of Berto-Lopez and then taking another fight, before getting a big-time opportunity.

The path is pretty straightforward, imo: Thurman/Guerrero wins impressively, moves to a June fight with Maidana, and then joins Cotto, Alvarez, Brook/Khan winner and Danny Garcia (if Mayweather-Pacquiao is close, all of this talk is moot) as viable options for Mayweather's final Showtime fight.

My friend and I played this match in fight night I was Thurman and he was guererro. It was a very close fight. Thurman won by a round. In a fight that deserves a rematch. Guererro landed one more punch then Thurman but Thurman was more effective but it still could have been a draw.
