i doubt it. ruiz supposedly beat him(but was robbed), so frazier would beat him much more convincingly. -
Yeah he probably would even though even Ruiz is physically larger than Frazier. That fight was very close IMO, could have gone either way.Originally posted by butterfly1964i doubt it. ruiz supposedly beat him(but was robbed), so frazier would beat him much more convincingly.Comment

Frazier would kill the sad bunch of heavies we have now. Just because they are larger means nothing. Heavyweights today are overweight and that will offer them no advantage against Joe. Frazier's style would be too fast paced for todays lumbering orgres.Comment

i dont know if any of you guys ever watch espn classic but there is a show on it called "CHEAP SEATS" with these two ceomedians who take old crazy sports footage and play it on TV and just make fun of it with commentary.
well anyhow they were making fun of this competition it was one of those old wide world of sports things called like "The Worlds Greatest Athletes"
frazier was one of the competitors and it took place after one of the ali fights not sure which. anyways, it was hilarious, there was a swimming competition of 50 yards freestyle and Joe pretty much sunk as soon as he jumped in the pool, he only made it the half the lap before he grabbed the lane divider and held on for help.
thats was understandable but funny
but then they had a weighlifting comp. i was like "alright smokin joe is gonna own these guys" boy was i wrong, frazier was one of the weakest guys. they were lifting 125 pounds clean and jerk style, after frazier didnt even come close to getting the weight up an olympic diver came up and did it like it was nothing. ive never felt so bad for anyone as i did for Joe Frazier that day.Comment

Yeah the only problem I could see for him is them leaning all over him and wearing him down, but he fought some good sized guys in his prime and I don't recall ever seeing that happen, so...Originally posted by Southpaw StingerFrazier would kill the sad bunch of heavies we have now. Yeah I saw that, I thought it was funny as hell that Joe couldn't swim, I guess if Frazier trained to punch straight up over his head then he would have had a better chance lolOriginally posted by Hitman932i dont know if any of you guys ever watch espn classic but there is a show on it called "CHEAP SEATS" with these two ceomedians who take old crazy sports footage and play it on TV and just make fun of it with commentary.

Guys like foster and Ellis were so much smaller than the guys of today though. i think Frazier would have his hands full with any good big guy, but of course he'd destroy the mediocre heavies simply with his speed alone. but the likes of a vitali Klitschko, a Lennox Lewis, a prime Bowe etc would be just too big and talented for him IMO. as for the current heavies, i'm not sure, Valuev is huge, but looks to be very poor skill wise, Brewster vs Frazier would be a great fight, but Brewster would be quite a bit heavier and possibly would carry more power, so i'd favour the bigger guy, after an epic battle. i think he'd be right up there, but i'm not sure if he'd beat the very best, simply because of the size difference, and because of Fraziers style, which was to wear the other guy down by attacking him and taking a lot of shots in the process, i'm just not sure how many of those big shots he could take.Comment

Who was that fat guy Frazier fought?Originally posted by paul750Guys like foster and Ellis were so much smaller than the guys of today though. i think Frazier would have his hands full with any good big guy, but of course he'd destroy the mediocre heavies simply with his speed alone. but the likes of a vitali Klitschko, a Lennox Lewis, a prime Bowe etc would be just too big and talented for him IMO. as for the current heavies, i'm not sure, Valuev is huge, but looks to be very poor skill wise, Brewster vs Frazier would be a great fight, but Brewster would be quite a bit heavier and possibly would carry more power, so i'd favour the bigger guy, after an epic battle. i think he'd be right up there, but i'm not sure if he'd beat the very best, simply because of the siz difference, and because of Fraiers style, which was to wear the other guy down by attacking him and taking a lot of shots in the process, i'm just not sure how many of those big shots he could take.
I think many of today's heavies would be too slow to catch Frazier on the way in, but would he be strong enough to keep them from tying him up so he couldn't score to the body?
That's the problem I see with him fighting someone like Valuev, VK, or Lewis.Comment

yeah, those competition are all funny as hell cause they always have a couple black guys who cant swin and a swimming competition to put them in. i remember they had Calvin Murphy in one and he was even worse than smokin joe i think he actually did have to be rescued cause he was way out in the middle lane.Originally posted by hollisterYeah I saw that, I thought it was funny as hell that Joe couldn't swim, I guess if Frazier trained to punch straight up over his head then he would have had a better chance lol
i guess it was just really weird to see Joe Frazier looking so damn human. you watch him fight and you think it would take a wrecking ball to knock him out then you watch this comp and they make him look like some chump off the street.Comment
