You listened to his first three albums but most importantly the first two and you think that they were awful? That's strange.
The South Park joke is cool doe. South Park is one of my favourite series it's okay to mock a little a celebrity who actually thinks that he is God.
But seriously, if you listen to College Dropout and Late Registration and you still don't understand why is he considered good and why is he hip-hop then I don't know... Let's say that then you have a vastly different opinion than the majority of critics and hip-hop listeners. College Dropout has beautiful soulful samples all over the tracks, Late Registration is kinda similar too. Yeezus is a wack album imo but that's a whole different style than his older albums.

There are good and bad thing in mainstream also just like in underground. I tend to like underground hip-hop more then minstream but there are plenty of mainstream artist who are good. For example: Jay-Z, Kanye, Kendrick, Snoop's old version, Eminem's old version...
It's not certainly mainstream = bad though it's oftenly wack.
And you said pop music when you boiled it down? Lol, on MBDTF the production was a little overcomplicated for me but no way that you gonna here that type of beats on a boyband. Even Kanye's wackest album Yeezus hasn't got poppy beats. And if you can say to the beautiful, soulful production of College Driopout and Late Registration that "it's pop" then you need to do your research because it's everything but pop music...
Or you think that soul = pop? I hope not.
And why would I care about how childish he acts? He isn't even in my favourite five rappers but I like almost every of his albums.

I'll admit that I've never listened to a full Kanye West album.

I've heard quite a few of his songs though and thought they were absolutely horrendous so it didn't exactly encourage me to check out the albums.

Just take a look at the ratings which his albums got by many critics and tell me if you find one that is considered wack by the majority of critics.

Listen to his older stuff on youtube, College Dropout ot Late Registration. Of course don't wait gritty hardcore street hip-hop but they are mainstream in the best way imo, you know, not corny but catchy.
