Seriously, the hype around this guy is about as big as Mathysse's was after his win over Peterson.
Did Mathysse's fans jump on the GGG bandwagon??

Apparently. And every underdog against a puncher is "another Garcia/Matthysse."
And no, TS. Many of the biggest Golovkin fans were among the vocal minority saying Garcia could/would beat Matthysse. They share fans, sure, but no more than any other fighters that share similar styles share fans.Comment

Matthysse fan here...
NO
I'm not fond of GGG...just neutral.
He's a great fighter but wouldn't be surprised to see him get outboxed by the right man in the future. Fairly confident Ward would comfortably beat him...but Ward is a division above and incredibly talented so that in itself is a credit to GGG.
Problem is I was aware of the GGG hype before I saw him fight...then after watching him fight I could only see the flaws...
unlike Lucas who I had watched fight many times before he had a hype build up so was aware of the flaws and could happily enjoy watching him beat people up (unlike with GGG)
Tale of the tape: Stop hyping up fighters it implants unrealistic expections which is no fun.
Same could be said for fighters who run around shouting about their unbeaten record. Nobody cares it just makes people want to see them get beat more...You build a fanbase off merit.Last edited by miniq; 02-27-2015, 03:29 PM.Comment
