Comments Thread For: Photos: Tyson Fury London Workout With Father John

British/EBU heavyweight champion Tyson Fury worked out for the press at the Pea**** Gym in London, England. Fury returns on Saturday night in a BoxNation televised main event against Christian Hammer. Tyson was joined by father, John Fury, who was recently released from prison, where he spent four of an eleven year sentence for gouging a man's eye out during a street fight. Tyson is the WBO's mandatory challenger to Wladimir Klitschko and he is expected to face the champion in the summer.

I just read this guy cried like a baby pleading for leniency from the judge after he cowardly attacked a guy with his children in a car park.

Will he be training Fury from here on out ? Doesn't sound like the kind of guy who can be a positive influence on Fury's career. From what I can gather Fury has made a monumental leap without this guy in his corner.

No he wont. He'll be helping out, but I think the pad workout with his dad was a bit of a gimmick. Just for a laugh.

His dad is a pretty big guy himself. I see where Tyson gets it from.

Tyson seems to be a more law abiding citizen than his father though.

having a cup of tea with daddy, released early from prison. I guess he behaved himself and didn't attempt gouging any prison guards.

I don't think Hammers the man to derail it but the way he's been hurt and dropped in the past I would say It won't be that long before the big mans ko'd and I think Mr.Bomb squad would do him quick.

I don't know the details of his fathers assault, but an 11 year sentence for gouging someone's eye out during a STREET FIGHT seems a little much. But I suppose Im just a dumdum who doesn't understand how rehabilitaion works.

Gouging an eye out seems quite serious to me. It's beyond a punch up.

Here's a recent video of the dad.

I read about it a while ago. Apparently this was a kind of duel. Eye gouging seems to be part of some travellers tradition... Also, it wasn't a stranger, they knew each other and had a long standing argument. Not to say this makes it any more excusable, but John didn't just pick a fight with a stranger.
