The only reason he has nothing is because Canelo ran away. I mean Canelo can try and get Cotto again, but this time he probably shouldn't pull out early. Or... are his fans going to give him another pass for fighting his 3rd D class JMW at MW?

What if cotto fought ggg and lost? Would you still want floyd to fight ggg for the MW title?
If not then your saying a cherry pick is perfectly fine thats all.

That might be valid if Cotto were fighting someone even as good as Kirkland. Canelo isn't a part time fighter like Cotto is now. For the "middleweight champion" to sit on his title for 16 months and then hope to fight a welterweight is disgraceful.

I can see why you see it that way. With that said, Golovkin picking on Cotto is a cherry pick. Mayweather-Cotto 2 is an evenly matched fight. Cotto happens to have won the lineal MW title in the ring fair and square, by stoppage at that.

Golovkin looks really good, he'll get his shot. If it's against Mayweather, I see him handing Floyd his first loss. But I doubt it happens due to the size difference. MW would be Floyd's 6th weight class, it's Golovkin's 1st. He's spent 9 years at the weight.

Cotto isn't fighting anybody, Canelo is. If he didn't run off to sign up to face punching bag 27 on his resume, he could be fighting Cotto in June right now. So... why are we blaming Cotto for Canelo/Cotto not happening when still, only one guy has a contract to fight someone else.

You weren't saying it was disgraceful when Martinez picked Cotto over GGG lol.

                Good response.
ggg/cotto is more ggg getting what should be his....so the general boxing fan wouldn't see it as a cherry pick.
I guess all i'm saying is it would be **** for floyd to get the MW title in that particular manner.
But as alot of fans seem to be on the business side of things these days it does make sense....which i don't agree with lol

That's the problem, no one has to agree with the business side but it's in boxing and not going anywhere so ignoring it doesn't make it go away.

Well fighting someone is better than fighting no one. Canelo didn't want to risk being hung out to dry if Cotto didn't eventually sign to fight him. He is in his prime and wants to stay active. They negotiated that fight for months already and Cotto never seemed to really want it.

Sergio already had several title defenses when he fought Cotto. Also Cotto was a junior middleweight, not a welterweight. And of course at that time GGG had four less wins than he does now.

I'm pretty sure Cotto remains Lineal/Ring champion even if he's stripped of the WBC belt. Wasn't that the same thing that happened when the WBC stripped Martinez of his title and had Chavez fight for it?
