Comments Thread For: Ruslan Chagaev-Lucas Browne Ordered By The WBA

The Championships Committee of the World Boxing Association has ordered the immediate negotiations for a mandatory fight between WBA 'regular' heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev and unbeaten challenger Lucas Browne, who is the highest rated (4) available contender in the division, and the Intercontinental champion.

The time allotted for reaching an agreement is 30 days, with a purse bid being called if no deal is reached. Chagaev has been the regular heavyweight title owner since last July 6 when he beat Fres Oquendo.

What if Wilder "unified" with one of these guys?

Hahaha, then the WBA make another belt because fuck it...and then another belt and then they unify

I was just hoping yesterday the WBA should order this fight, but I didn't believe they would.

Good to see Lucas Browne finally get a decent payday and a chance to win a version of a title.

He's worked hard and deserves it.

Ruslan has way past his heyday and Lucas is simply not good. Wish I could be excited for this, used to love watching Chagaev fight.

Surely neither org would sanction it.

Chagaev if in condition eases to a points victory if he is shape, big if, I hope the fight is better than the Oquendo Chagaev one, that was truly awful man.

I rate or at least rated Chagaev exceptionally highly at one time, he seems to have really let himself go after the Povetkin loss. That was a really good fight and quite close too, I was rooting for Chagaev that night.

Not really an admirer of Browne, he's a nice guy but he is nothing more than a crude out of shape brawler, hell he has heart and desire even a touch charismatic I just don't rate the guy at all. This is a fight Chagaev should win with ease but the shape he has presented himself in recent fights has been abysmal.

I think he deserves the shot, he has kept busy, beat some reasonably ranked guys and looked somewhat semi impressive in stages. It is only a title fight and not a crack at a full world belt, should he win I would be in favor of him fighting Wlad or Wilder.

Hopefully Ortiz after completing his ban figures for the winner to create a worthy mandatory. It'd be cool to see Wlad up against Ortiz as opposed to these recycled challengers he has defeated already.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did....WBA at least. It's a money grab at this point and they already showed they'd make room for more money.

I agree though, I don't rate either guy very high.....like at all.
