  • Comments Thread For: Lennox Lewis Breaks Down Mayweather vs. Pacquiao

Former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis weighed in on the super-fight, Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao - scheduled for May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Lewis, like most fighters as of late, is siding with Mayweather to get the victory.

Lewis told BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek - "Floyd is the best at side-stepping and movement and he's very quick and hard to hit. Pacquiao is a great guy when it comes to offence and trying to break a person down - he's trying to knock you out, so it's a great match-up between styles."

    Lewis....

...one of the biggest hype jobs ever. People criticize Klitchko. A prime Evander and Tyson would have destroyed this guy.

Lennox is so full of crap when he talks about people love heayweights and that it would make a lot of money.

There are a lot of dumb people who pay for dumb PPVs but I honestly can't see anyone interested in watching Lennox these days when he's considered a big 90s days fighter. Watching him now would be like watching a dinosaur vs Wlad. Nobody would pay for that crap.

I honestly think the momentum has shifted completely from the heavyweight days now to the welterweights and just about most any class under 200lbs.

People like to see fights with action, movement, less hugging, and you get all of this with the lighter weight class fighters. Don't need these slow, lumbering heavyweights anymore.

Lmao wow nobody had even criticized his assessment before you made that outlandish statement. That being said, many people say its close to being a 50/50 fight, and mayweather might have a slight edge. Only a handful of people believe it will be mayweather for sure. Brandon Rios and algieri ironically think mayweather will win hands down. De la Hoya said its pretty much 50/50.

Many are picking pacquiao to win however. Shawn porter, Roberto Duran, nacho baristain, Leon Spinks, mike Tyson, Marvin hagler, and many others believe pacquiao will win. Public opinion polls are pretty much divided. I think its amazing how many American believe pacquiao would win. Go ask 100 people in the phillipines who they think would win. I guarantee 99 of them would say pacquiao.

My point is who cares what one persons opinion is? Doesn't mean anything because nobody knows until they step in the ring may 2nd, as long as mayweather doesn't pull out with a bogus injury which I believe might happen. I believe hes still scared but hopefully he proves his doubters wrong and we get to see pacquiao beat up on mayweather may 2nd which I whole heartedly believe for reasons I've said over and over again on here.

Your comment was totally pointless though considering nobody even criticized Lewis. So basically you just spewed a hate filled comment for no reason

Actually Lewis didn't really beat up mcall in the rematch. If you recall mcall had some sort of drug induced psychosis right in the middle of the fight and refused to fight. He would drop his guard and pace around the ring and when Lewis went to punch him mcall would tie him up. He wasn't even defending himself and Lewis still couldn't hurt him lol that was the funniest fight ever.

With that being said, I believe Lewis was a pretty good champion. He beat an old washed up holyfield and old washed up tyson which were basically his two best wins. To give him credit, bowe, holyfield and Tyson were seen as ducking him in their primes. Who knows if Lewis could have beaten a prime Tyson. If he got koed by Rahman and mcall, surely prime Tyson had a good shot.

The one bad thing I can say about him is that he was thoroughly getting his ass kicked by vitali klitschko 4/6 rounds before the doctor erroneously and prematurely stopped the fight because of a cut on vitalis eye that wasn't even affecting his vision. Vitali pleaded to let the fight continue and they should have. Lewis told vitali in the ring he would get a rematch but subsequently retired rather than to lose which was basically a guarantee. That is not the sign of a true all time great. Manny pacquiao gave Marquez 3 rematches, and since Marquez beat him now he wont give pacquiao a rematch. Same kind of scenario, they both ran scared.
