Sorry if there are any spelling mistakes, did this in a hurry. Enjoy!

    JES: Jorge Eduardo Sánchez

    JMM: Juan Manuel Márquez

JES: We’re at the ring in “Golpe a Golpe” (Blow by blow), with Juan Manuel Márquez, so he can tell us a little about the capabilities of both fighters (Floyd and Manny), we know them very well. Simply explain, what can they do to each other, understanding their abilities.

JMM: We have to wait. It’s an important point to make, that Floyd Mayweather is not used to fight with southpaws (left handed), and that will be complicated for him. But, actually, we know Mayweather’s style, he will be waiting for him (Manny) in the ropes, and what Manny will do is deliver blows with speed and wait for the answer. But in this case, Mayweather will protect himself (he mimics Mayweather’s defense) and counter-punches will come. That’s what should be worked on by Manny Pacquiao, throw the combination with lots of speed and immediately go to the sides, to not give space to Mayweather and be connected by his punches.

JES: Is there any punch that Manny can work on Mayweather that you were successful with, Juan? (Meaning when JMM fought Floyd).

JMM: The hook, the right handed hook. In this case because Manny is left handed, the right hand hook but with a combination to the body and repeating it upstairs (meaning to attack the body first and then the head), you throw a straight right to the body (he got confused it was actually a left) and then you throw the hook with the right up, double hook! And why not, finish with a left cross? Those are punches that can make some damage.

    JES: (interrupting) Repeating!

JMM: Yes, repetition. When a fighter is going back, for example in this combination, with the double hook and the straight left at the end, can be key to make some damage to Mayweather’s chin.

JES: Mayweather could think for a bit that Manny is not as dangerous, be over confident and pay the price, Juan.

JMM: In this case, he has to be extremely careful, we know very well that Manny Pacquiao from his southpaw stance throws with lots of speed and he will get inside Mayweather’s defense. But he has to wait for Mayweather’s answer. He’ll come inside, and we know Mayweather covers himself very well, so Manny has to wait for the answer and then move to the side to cancel Mayweather’s distance, to start making damage and getting inside Mayweather’s defense and start making Mayweather desperate. What I mean is to get inside with speed, move to the side, defend Mayweather’s answer and attack again with speed. Speed and Power will be key for Manny Pacquiao.

JES: To close “El Ring de Golpe a Golpe” (name of the segment, “Blow by Blow’s ring”). Would Mayweather be able to cool down Manny’s rhythm? To totally freeze that rhythm?

JMM: We know that Floys is a very intelligent fighter, he could cancel it (the rhythm) and even to desperate him (Manny) and make him fall in Mayweather’s game: to get in short/close distance and connect him with uppercuts. We know he connects uppers very well and moves, delivering right counterpunches, throwing straight punches from the distance. We know he has really long arms and will maintain him at the distance, but if Manny Pacquiao gets inside Mayweather’s guard, using speed, lateral movements and power, he can upset Mayweather.

The full episode was very very intriguing and Marquez by far is the best analyst in my opinion.

Good find. I like when JMM breaks down a fight.

Marquez says that neither of them are in their best moments in time, also said that Pacquiao could indeed have flashbacks after the knockout in 2012, saying that a clean shot to the chin may make him relive those moments (I disagree, although probable). Added that, despite all that it's still a very interesting fight.

Best part of the episode for me is...

JES: After getting knocked out, and granted you obviously took something out of Pacquiao but at the same time Pacquiao is more calculating, more intelligent and better fighter.

Marquez: --- But, Pacquiao needs to be more aggressive, you can say he's more calculative, smarter but that ISN'T what he needs in order to beat Mayweather. Pacquiao needs to be very aggressive but with intelligence and that's not something Pacquiao can do. Pacquiao only knows how to be aggressive without measuring the consequences, he likes to attack without waiting for the responses and he isn't gonna beat Mayweather that way.

JMM is right. One of the main reasons I favour Floyd strongly is the defensive mistakes Pac makes when attacking like dropping his left hand and overextending/lunging without moving his head or feet. I just see him following Floyd around and getting frustrated.

Pacquiao needs to bring back the head movement that he had against Oscar. That was great
