With the news of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao finally coming to terms for their long awaited showdown – which takes place May 2 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas – the next expected move was for Golden Boy Promotions to firm up details for Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’ ring return.

The wildly popular Mexican boxer had originally targeted May 2 for his next fight, agreeing to move off the date only if Mayweather-Pacquiao came to fruition. With that, Alvarez will now fight one week later, as he takes on James Kirkland on May 9 at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.

Who cares ...this average fighter always gets bs fights he had 2 real opponents...smaller Floyd school him and Lara beat him...waaaayyy to overrated .....Kirkland has no real skills and hasn't fought in awhile ...no one cares about this fight in some park named after a juice ...lol..,canelo should have just shut up and stop challenging the p4p king and stayed on his undercard

Should be cheap... plus that's a good thing they can buy it months before instead of the week of.... only thing they'd have to save for the week up is maybe transportation and beer money

the best fighting the best ? none in this fight. when kirkland enters the ring. it will be almost 2 years. can't wait to see how many of the $ 10 tickets go on the first day.

I think its a very fun fight and I'd be in Houston for it if NOT for May/Pac the week before.

Hell I'm choosing to just go to Vegas for the atmosphere over going to Houston for the actual fight even though the Canelo trip would be about 5 times cheaper so it has to hurt it some.

Maybe, but Kirkland wont be as cautious as el perro. He will be throwing bombs. Lets see if Canelo can impose himself early, which I think is something he learned from the Mayweather fight.
