Comments Thread For: Abraham-Smith II Draws Over 4 Million Home Viewers

As a continued reminder that boxing remains a far more celebrated sport beyond U.S. borders, Arthur Abraham’s rematch win over Paul Smith proved to be a big hit with viewers in Germany.

The bout - which aired live on SAT1 – registered more than 4 million viewers on Saturday evening. The network confirmed the news overnight, referring to the result as “[w]orld class: Arthur Abraham brings with title defense against Paul Smith strong 15.0% market share.”

Hmmmm, I wonder how many of those 4million viewers continued watching after Abraham? SAT1 showed Golovkin/Murray right after.

I truly don't under HBO. Instead of adding this fight to the card last night, we get one ho-hum fight. Hbo really needs to stop with one and two fight cards. Give us a chance to see new fighters. I truly hope HBO does not get to show the replay of FLOYD and manny, cause then we know that we will only get to see Canelo and Kirkland live. HBO could have gave us 3 fights last night.

Based on this, it looks like Golovkin/Murray drew about 2.5mill viewers in Germany (dropping from 15% to to 11.1% of the German tv market). Hopefully the fight had similar or better ratings in the UK to help build incentive for Froch/Golovkin clash.

Wow, that is great numbers for a European championship fight. Now, when is King Arthur going to actually fight in a world title fight??

Not surprised the Germans tuned in to watch an Englishman called Paul Smith getting beaten up

Crazy- that's like the equivalent of 16 million people in the US watching a fight.
