Rahman-Toney: As Good as it gets?

A fight does its job when it finds conclusions to situations, allowing everyone to move on to new business. All Hasim Rahman and James Toney managed to do on Saturday night was to raise even more questions at a time when the heavyweight division is in dire need of answers. The most pertinent question in my mind is: If Rahman fought that fight in his best possible condition against what appeared to be the twilight of Toney’s brilliance, and salvaged his title by trudging to a draw, how much faith can we place in him as heavyweight champion? First of all Rahman clearly won this fight and it proved at least to me that Toney is not the hw savior.Byrd-Klitschko should help clear the picture because even if it is close enough to be a draw the German judges will make sure there is a winner and as we all know in a close fight in Germany against a top euro fighter the euro fighter will win.

that was not a clear victory at all. You have one guy pussing the action with his jab, and the other throwing less but landing the clearer harder, more effective punches. Even with all those waek jabs he landed only 16 more punches, after throwing almost 200 more. A draw was a good call

I don't care who wins I'm just looking for a flat out KO in this fight. If it goes 12 rounds I'm gonna be upset unless these guys are beating the hell out of each other for 12 rounds.

as corrupt as the decision was, nobody seems to have mentioned that it was a majority draw!!...meaning, that at least one of the judges wasn't corrupt!...

I feel Toney lost the fight by himself if he should have taken the fight more serouisly and tone up his body he would have won at least by UD. sometimes Judges look are your body and see who has a stronger image, dont blame them but that is a human nature.

Trash talks is just part of the business to sell. If there isnt trash talks there may not be many viewers.

Rahman and Toney both proved they don't belong at the top of the heap. If Toney had any semblance of heavweight power, he'd be champ, if he had shed an extra 10-15 lbs, he could conceiveably be the WBC champ. Rock's got heart as does Toney; but neither are good enough to claim to be the best. Personally, I had Rock winning the fight. And...the fact that almost the first words out of Rahman's mouth were how Toney wasn't at his best, that something must have been wrong in James training camp...that he was sure he'd be in better shape for the rematch is extraordinarily susupicious. Doesn't the loser usually make his own excuses?

Rock was bankrupt going into this fight. Hmmm.

you don't "clearly win a fight" by just throwing punches in the dark, hoping one finally connects...

this fight was more a case of Toney's weight finally catching up to him in a fight, before his fight last saturday, he's never had to worry about his weight, but with an opponent's size like Rahman's, he's got to understand now that he can't be as active if he doesn't come in at least a little better shape. Rahman did just like i thought he would, decent at best. He had a given higher workrate, but that was it.

You can't give a win to a fighter just because his arms are moving more..

I also think this fight will be a serious wake-up call for James Toney.
