  • Comments Thread For: Arum More Confident Now of Pacquiao Beating Mayweather

NOW that undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. has signed the contract to fight eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 2 in what Top Rank promoter Bob Arum describes as “the biggest fight in history,” the talk is shifting to which fighter has the edge.

Arum told BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard/Viva Sports not long after Mayweather announced the fight as agreed upon during his meeting with Pacquiao at his hotel suite in Miami, Florida after an initial face-to-face meeting at halftime of the Miami Heat-Milwaukee Bucks game, that he is looking forward to a Pacquiao victory.

5-6 years ago I would have said it was 90/10 fight in Pac's favour but now it is about 65/35.

Pacquiao is not a explosive, his work rate has dropped and is not as intense, plus the Marquez KO has made him a bit more cautious.

It's funny. I think Arum believes Floyd declined and Floyd thinks Manny declined which made the timing right to make the fight now.

This fight was NEVER 90/10 in either guys favor. Freddie roach even said that when this fight was first being discussed he didn't think Manny would win. It took time for him to believe Manny had a legit chance at beating Mayweather.

He even said in a recent interview that this fight will be the "toughest challenge EVER!"

That is Roach, not me. Pacquiao is all wrong for Mayweather and back then, with that extra bit of sharpness and more aggression, power and tenacity would have made it a 90/10 fight.

Pacquiao is a bit more cautious these days, thinking before he gets of his shots.

It will make him more tactical but not the force he once was.

How is PAC all wrong for Floyd? He's undersized, has no jab, no body attack what so ever, and isn't physically strong enough to back Floyd up.
